Albert L. "Al" Dowell, passed away at the age of 82, on March 9, 2014 surrounded by his family. He was born October 30, 1931 to Roy and Myrtle Dowell in Tippecanoe County where he lived all his life. After serving overseas in the Army from 1954 to 1955 he married the love of his life, Joan A. McKinney, on January 21, 1956, she passed December 8, 1995.
Al worked in construction all his life. In 1957 he and Joan started his business A.L. Dowell Excavating Contractor.
He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, hosting the annual family bean dinner, and loved going to his cabin, especially with his great grandson, Carter. He was very proud of all five of his children, eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren whom he leaves behind.
Surviving are his daughters, Phyllis Dowell, Peg Gish (Todd), and Nancy Dowell; sons, Daniel Dowell (Kristie) and John Dowell; grandchildren, Meghan Dowell (Alan Godwin), Averie Dowell, Jessie Dowell, Lauren Tull (Josiah), Julia Gish, Joshua Dowell, James Gish, and Madyson Dowell; and great-grandchildren, Carter Tull and Ella Tull. Also surviving are his seven sisters and one brother, Thelma Venable, Mae Clouse, Mary Ritchie, Kate Wright, Carol Nangle (Arne), Linda Bilyeu (Art), Judy Riddle (Harold), and Don Dowell (Mary Beth). He was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Berninger and Betty Dowell and two brothers, Delbert and William "Bill" Dowell.

Visitation Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Funeral service 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Father Mike McKinley officiating. Burial to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the local chapter of the American Lung Association. Hippensteel Funeral Home is entrusted with care.
