Barbara A. (Jones) Burkenpas, 72, of Lafayette, passed away, unexpectedly, at home on Friday, January 10, 2014. Born February 16, 1941 in Logansport, IN, she was the daughter of the late Mervil and Leona (Hoover) Jones. She was a 1959 graduate of Logansport High School.
Barbara married Peter Burkenpas in May, 2003 in Lafayette, and he survives. She worked in healthcare for 15 years, 5 of those years at Home Hospital, retiring in 2003. She was a member of Community Reformed Church where she was a member of the Bible Study Group. Her hobbies included traveling, reading, crocheting and watercolor painting.

Surviving with her husband are her children, Kent "David" Pugh (wife, Debbie) of Culleoka, Tennessee, Karen Grove (husband, Dave) of Lafayette and Holly Cannon of Indianapolis; her "bonus" children (Peter's children) Tom Burkenpas (wife, Sue) of Rogers, AR, Karen Bosma (husband, Tom) and Judy Brown (husband, Kevin) both of Lafayette; and her sister, Sandy
Hatcher (husband, Chuck) of Columbus, IN, twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Funeral service at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Community Reformed Church with Rev. Wes Campbell officiating. Burial to follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Logansport. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Reformed Church. Hippensteel Funeral Home is entrusted with care.
