Dieter Hantschel, 73, of Delphi, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at 2:45 a.m. on Monday, April 7, 2014 at St. Elizabeth East Hospital. Born January 5, 1941 in Komotau, Germany, he was the son of the late Herbert Hantschel and Irmtraut (Katzwendel) Hantschel of Monticello, who survives.
Dieter married Sherry May on July 8, 1990 in Peaceful Valley, Colorado and she survives. He retired from the legal department at Qwest Telephone Company, formerly Mountain Bell, in 1990 after 35 years. He was a member of Hickory Grove Church and recently enjoyed making the bulletins. He was also a member of the Civil Air Patrol in Colorado, American Red Cross, Experimental Aviation Association (AOPA), Aircraft Owner and Pilot Association, SCHLARAFFIA German Fraternity, and the Masonic Lodge.
Surviving with his wife and mother are two step-daughters, Ann Hunley of Bloomington, IN and Janel Hunley of Arvada, CO, his mother-in-law, Esther May of West Lafayette, sister-in-laws, Janet Johnson (Jim) of Aurora, CO and Margene Shugarts (Bill) of Fairfax Station, VA, step-sister Doris Fuller of Denver, CO, and step-brothers, Rainer Hantschel of Denver, CO and Robert Hantschel of Aurora, CO, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his step-mother, Inge Hantschel, step-brother, Frank Hantschel, and father-in-law, Clarence May.
Memorial visitation from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Hickory Grove Church, 9714 N. 700 W., Delphi, IN 46923 with the memorial service at 2 p.m. Pastor Ken Smith officiating.
