Doris Eveleen Kauffman, 90, of Lafayette, IN, died at 3:50 a.m. on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Woodland Manor Nursing Center in Attica, IN. Doris was born in Colburn, IN on December 13, 1923. She was the daughter of the late Albert Frederick and Nellie Faybell (Hanson) Kauffman. She moved to Lafayette, IN, in 1937 and graduated from Jefferson High School, class of 1942. Doris worked in Lafayette at Alcoa Inc. during WWII, Brown Rubber Company for 16 years after that, and retired from Lafayette Life Insurance after 25 years. She was a member of the Americus Quilting Club since 1987 along with her sister Sylvia and many family members before her. She was a member of Americus Union Church where she was the church pianist. She was also an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Tippecanoe County Historical Association, Lafayette Life Retirees Club, and participated in many military/patriotic activities and events throughout her life. She was an avid bowler participating in various leagues through Lafayette Life and earned quite a few trophies. After retirement she traveled to every state in the Continental United States; Montreal, Canada, and took a cruise to the Bahamas.
Surviving are two nephews, Frederick and Cecil "Bud" Funkhouser; two nieces, Julia Rutledge and Jo Ann Heims Boesche; and several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Sylvia Roberts and Vada Heims, and nephew Frances Funkhouser.
The family extends its appreciation for the care and attention shown by the staff of Woodland manor during her final days.
Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Funeral service at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Saturday, with Sue Spurlin officiating. Entombment to follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Americus Union Church. Hippensteel Funeral Home is entrusted with care.
