Gary L. Rehwinkel, 68, of Lafayette, passed away at 4:27 p.m. on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Central Hospital. Born September 16, 1945 in Lafayette, he was the son of the late Charles and Kathryn (Killian) Rehwinkel. Gary was a 1965 graduate of East Tipp High School. He honorably served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1967.
Gary married Jane Butz on July 18, 1970 in Lafayette and she survives. He was a letter carrier for the US Post Office for 35 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post #11, VFW #1154, Moose and Eagles Lodges and Voiture 40 & 8. He enjoyed spending time with his family, cooking, fishing, hunting, playing cards and gambling.
Surviving with his wife are his two children, Barb Riegle-Walls (husband, Randy) and Scott Rehwinkel (wife, Julie) both of Lafayette; three brothers, Charles Rehwinkel (wife, Judy) of Otterbein, Joe Rehwinkel (wife, Lee) of Delphi and Jim Rehwinkel (wife, Daletta) of Lafayette; and four grandchildren, Sydney Walls, Chloe Walls, Ava Rehwinkel and Addison Rehwinkel all of Lafayette. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dave Rehwinkel.
Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Funeral service Saturday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, with Dr. Will Miller officiating. Interment to follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park with Military Honors by the American Legion Post #11 and the United States Army.
