George Ray Aldridge, age 93, of Lafayette, died at 5:45 p.m. Friday, November 19, 2010 at St. Anthony Healthcare Center.

He was born on March 21, 1917 in Newton, Illinois, and had lived most of his life in Lafayette. He was the son of the late James T. Aldridge and Margaret E. Peneton Aldridge.

On February 17, 1940 he married Alfreda Ruth Lewis in Fowler, IN. She died on January 12, 1986.

Mr. Aldridge served in the U. S. Army from 1943 to 1945 and was in the Infantry. He participated in the New Guinea Campaign, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.

He worked for Chamberlain Ice Cream Co. for 25 years and then worked at Peerless Wire for 18 years. He was a member of American Legion Post 11, Masonic Lodge 123, and a life member of the VFW Post 1154. Mr. Aldridge enjoyed time with his family, and listening to Lafayette Jefferson High School Basketball and Football on the radio.

Surviving are 2 sons: James R. Aldridge (wife: Nancy) and Michael L. Aldridge (wife: Sandy) both of Lafayette; 2 sisters: Ruth Sanburn of Kokomo and Betty Miller of Frankfort; a sister-in-law: Betty Aldridge of Monticello.

Also surviving are 4 grandchildren: Angela Woods (husb: Tommy) of Winamac, Chad Aldridge of Lafayette, Natalie Gaskin of Brookston and Kelly Gallmeyer (husb: Dan) of Plain City, Ohio and 6 great-grandchildren: Hunter and Brody Smith of Winamac, Austyn and Jadeyn Gaskin of Brookston and Avery and Cody Gallmeyer of Plain City, Ohio. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers: Ross Aldridge and Ed Aldridge.

Visitation November 23, 2010 Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with the service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Hippensteel Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Dominick officiating. Interment at Rest Haven Memorial Park with military rites. Hippensteel Funeral Service entrusted with care.
