Helen Claire (Varnedo) McCorvey, 99, of West Lafayette, passed away at 8:11 p.m. on Sunday, February 9, 2014, at Westminster Village. Born March 16, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Henry Bertram and Lucille (Mashburn) Varnedo. Helen had formerly resided in Cocoa Beach, FL, Waynesville, NC, Valdosta, GA, San Francisco, CA, College Station, TX, Dugway, UT, DeLand, FL, and France. She graduated from high school in Valdosta, GA and earned her BA from Valdosta State College. She was an elementary school teacher for 10 years.
Her marriage was to Colonel David Dixon McCorvey, Sr. on December 25, 1941 in Valdosta, GA. He preceded her in death on January 12, 1986. She was a member of Eastern Star, Grey Ladies Service Organization, and Army Wives Club.
Surviving are her children, Judith Buchman of West Lafayette and William McCorvey (wife, Sherry) of DeLand, FL, 6 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, David Dixon McCorvey, Jr.
