Ina Jean (Mulvey) LaFon, 78, of Lafayette, passed away at 5:35 p.m. on Sunday, January 19, 2014 with family by her side. Born September 28, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Nora Eileen (Bresnahan) Mulvey. She was a 1953 graduate of St. Francis High School.
Ina Jean married Gerald LaFon on July 2, 1954 in Lafayette and he survives. She worked as a switchboard operator for I.U. Hospital for 14 years, retiring in 2013. She had previously worked in insurance and billing at St. Elizabeth Hospital. She was a member of American Legion Post #11 Women's Auxiliary. Ina Jean enjoyed reading, playing Euchre, traveling, hummingbird watching and spending time with her family. She loved to cook and bake.
Surviving with her husband are her four daughters, Karen E. Getts (husband, Larry) of Fort Wayne, IN, Sharon M. Leingang of Lafayette, Ina M. Heide (husband, Aric) of Blackduck, MN, and Brenda A. Riley of Seymour, IN; her two sons, Jeffrey E. LaFon (Tina Clouse-LaFon) of Myrtle Beach, SC and Ron C. LaFon (wife, Lisa) of Battle Ground, IN; 22 grandchildren, Jeremy, Casey (Samantha), Trisha, and Chad (Lynley) Taylor, William (Emily) Getts, Amanda LaFon, Amber (Aaron) Moreno, Justin, Gabe, Grant (Amanda), and Jenna Leingang, Kellie (Scott) Mistic, Jamie (Corey) DuPuy, Jared (Emma) LaFon, Melissa (Ryan) Mistic, Adam (Sarah), Jacob (Jordan), Danielle (Joshua), and Alexandria Heide, Henry III (Samantha) and Emily Riley, and Josh Hounshel; and 18 great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Sonja, Cadence, Elliana, Elena, Lauren, Ayla, Quinn, Cameron, Blake, Madison, Remington, Imrie, Brody, Baileigh, Landon, Payton, and Brooklyn; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Memorial visitation one hour prior to the 10 a.m. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday at St. Ann's Church with Father Dominic Young officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Signature Healthcare for the popcorn machine fund. A special thanks to Signature Healthcare staff and St. Elizabeth Hospice.
