Janice A. (Rector) Safford, 81, of Lafayette, passed away at 2:45 p.m. Monday, March 10, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Central Hospital. Born May 10, 1932 in Circleville, IN, she was the daughter of the late Everett and Bessie (Singleton) Rector. She was a 1950 graduate of Wolcott High School.
Janice married Virgil G. Safford and he survives. She was a receptionist for Dr. Filmer for 2 ½ years and then for Dr. Hebard for 4 years, retiring in 1995. She was a member of Sigma Alpha Sorority and enjoyed antiques, dogs, and reading.
Surviving with her husband are her two daughters, Jancis Safford and Lauretta Hotchkiss both of Lafayette, two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Visitation one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service on Thursday at Hippensteel Funeral Home with Celebrant Carla Ellis officiating. Burial to follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
