Larry L. Rayburn, 64, of Lafayette, passed away at home at 9:47 p.m. on Monday, April 7, 2014. Born June 5, 1949 in Lafayette, he was the son of Arabella (Lappin) Rayburn of Lafayette and the late Clarence Rayburn. Larry graduated from Jefferson High School and honorably served with the U.S. Navy from 1968 to 1972 and took part in the Apollo 13 recovery.
His marriage was to Gaylyn Jo Pinckard on December 11, 1971 in Las Vegas, NV and she survives. Larry was a postal clerk for the U.S. Post Office for over 41 years. He was very social and enjoyed spending time with his family around a bon fire. He loved his dog, Nikki.
Surviving with his wife and mother are his two children, Samantha Rayburn and Evan Rayburn both of Lafayette, his grandson, Connor Vetchel Simmons, and his sister, Pamela Kay Williams (husband, Randy) of Clarks Hill.
Visitation one hour prior to the 11 a.m. memorial service on Saturday, April 19, 2014, at Hippensteel Funeral Home, with Pastor Chuck Tague officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Jackson Heights United Methodist Church, or Lafayette Food Finders. Hippensteel Funeral Home is entrusted with care.
