Dr. Michael "Doc" Haville lost his courageous fight against Pancreatic Cancer on Friday, March 28, 2014 at 10:48 p.m. in his West Lafayette home. He was born February 21, 1958 in Sparta, WI. After completing high school he joined the Air Force and served honorably for 4 years (1976-1980). Michael enrolled in University of Wisconsin then completed his Doctor of Chiropractic at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA in 1986. In 1988, he became a partner at Wagner Chiropractic at which time he completed his Post Grad work in Orthopedics. In June of 2001 Michael opened West Lafayette Chiropractic Center in West Lafayette and successfully practiced until January 1 2014.
Michael married Tamara Ness on January 1, 2000 and she survives, along with three children and one granddaughter; Taylor Haville (22), Andrew Baumgartner (26), Micah Baumgartner (22) & Coraline. Michael is survived by his Mother (Carol Haville) and three sisters (Paula, Judy, Mary) and two brothers (Richard, Tom). He was preceded in death by a brother (Daniel) and his father (Lloyd).
Michael's true love and long pursuit was Chiropractic; he had a strong philosophy and continuously worked to better his understanding of Chiropractic Science. He was adored and loved by his patients and he loved them back; always willing to make sure they were taken care of no matter what time of the day or night. The nickname 'Doc' came about when Michael would proudly tell people he was a 'Doctor of Chiropractic'. Michael was an advocate of exercise – he ran competitively until age 50 and then started biking and joined the Wabash River Cycling Club and was fortunate to participate in many events. Among his biggest accomplishments in riding was RAIN (163 mi race across Indiana) twice and was on the winning team for the 24 hour CASA ride in 2011. He also loved traveling with his family, particularly to Barbados, which he proudly claimed was his little bit of heaven.
Michael will be missed by all of his friends, colleagues and mostly his family.
Memorial visitation at Hippensteel Funeral Home on Thursday from 3 p.m. until the Celebration of Life service beginning at 6 p.m. with Chuck Cichanowicz leading the service. Military honors to follow with Josiah Lamb playing Taps. Memorial contributions may be made in Michael's memory to the Community Cancer Network, P.O Box 4499, Lafayette, IN 47903 or online to www.CaringBridge.org in memory of Michael Haville.
