Chester J. "Chet" Albregts, age 91, of Lafayette, died at 2:14 P.M. Friday, July 6, 2012 at St. Elizabeth East Hospital. He was born June 30, 1921 in Earl Park, the son of the late Joseph B. and Louise Snouwaert Albregts. Chet was raised in Benton County and graduated in 1940 from Freeland Park High School where he was a star basketball player. His marriage was to Betty J. Shuppert on August 12, 1942 in Attica and they would have been married 70 years on their upcoming wedding anniversary. Chet was a life-long farmer in both White and Tippecanoe Counties. He was a member of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament and a former member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. In addition, he was a member of the Tippecanoe Country Club in Monticello, the Elks Country Club in West Lafayette, and the Royal Wood Country Club in Naples, Florida. Chet was an avid golfer, having made 5 hole-in-ones during his lifetime. At one time, Chet served as a Precinct Committeeman for Tippecanoe County.
Surviving with his wife, Betty, are their four children: Gwendolyn J. Gallagher of Noblesville, Robert G. Albregts and his wife Sandy of Fishers, Pamela S. Watts of Noblesville, and Christine L. Cook and her husband Bradley of Noblesville, five brothers: Richard Albregts and his wife Cecelia of Racine, WI, William Albregts of Lafayette, Joseph Albregts and his wife Sharon of Lafayette, James Albregts of Lafayette, and Cecil Albregts and his wife Maude of Alamo, TX, two sisters: Kathryn Riehle and Irene Woodruff both of Lafayette. Chet is also survived by his four grandchildren: Kevin Gallagher and his wife Natalie, Tanya Corbin, Toyzanne Mason and her husband Chris, and Tamara Warfeld and her husband Matt, and 9 great-grandchildren. Chet was preceded in death by his parents, one sister: Marie Brown, and two brothers: Earl and Francis Albregts.
Visitation 4-7 p.m. Sunday with Recitation of the Rosary at 3:45 p.m. at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial 10.00 a.m. Monday at St. Boniface Catholic Church with Father Tim Alkire officiating. Entombment to follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. The family suggests memorial contributions be made in Chet's memory to the Church of the Blessed Sacrament in West Lafayette. Hippensteel Funeral Home entrusted with care.
