Kate Sherony, former faculty member in the Management Department at Purdue University, died Thursday, August 29, 2013, in her home on the 9th Street Hill in Lafayette. Kate spent a lifetime helping others laugh and learn. She loved to teach and was brilliant behind the lectern. Kate was annually honored with outstanding teaching awards. Also, she amassed a quirky collection of things whimsical and unique, and was the curator of the "world-renown" Spudnuts Museum. Kate was inspired by the music of the 60s and 70s, including The Beatles and renowned guitarist Leo Kottke. Kate graduated from Highland Park High School, completed her bachelor's degree in economics and MBA at the University of Iowa, and earned a Ph.D. from Krannert School of Management, Purdue University, in 2002. For ten years Kate battled M.S. and cancer with courage, humor and grace, and inspired others facing challenges in life. She met death fearlessly and in peace.
Kate leaves behind family members and many friends who will miss her zany wit and generous love. She is survived by her parents, father Rory (Linda) and mother Dolores (partner Stan Pekol); siblings Keith (Linda), Mark (Debra) and Marcia (Michael Luciani); many loving nieces and nephews; very dear friends Jim Moore and Jack Klink; special Aunt Theresa VanderVere; and many cousins. The Frinks will never be the same.
Donations in her memory can be made to the National MS Society at http://www.nationalmssociety.org/index.aspx. Hippensteel Funeral Home is entrusted with care. Share memories and condolences online at www.hippensteelfuneralservice.com
