Robert R. McKinney, age 87 of Lafayette, passed away at 8:02 a.m. on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at Rosewalk Village. Born June 2, 1925 in Linden, IN, he was the son of the late Finis and Eula Gorman McKinney. He resided in Tippecanoe County most of his life.
His marriage was to Edna Pearl Richardson in 1954 and she preceded him in death in February 2000. Robert was a custodian at Schwab Safe and worked as a security guard at Consolidated Industries on Brady Lane for several years. He attended St. Paul Community Church.
Robert enjoyed playing bingo at the Hanna Center, dancing, watching cowboy movies and sports, especially basketball, and eating at McDonald's.
Surviving are his five sons, Junior Balser (wife, Marilyn) of Rossville, Dwayne Balser of Lafayette, Herb Balser (wife, Donna) of Lafayette, Dennis Balser (companion, Eyvonna) of Linden, and Stanley Balser (wife, Dolly) of Lafayette; two daughters, Barbara Gerken (husband, Larry) and Diana Bowman both of Lancaster, OH; and two sisters, Betty Edwards of Crawfordsville and Eleanor Hooper of Lafayette. 36 grandchildren and many great grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Myrtle Breshears, Mildred Welsh, Margaret Barker, and Ruth McKinney; and his brother Paul McKinney.
Visitation from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Funeral service 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial to follow at West Point Cemetery.
